在各種防腐漆中，淺色、高固體分、無(wú)溶劑化是船艙涂料的發(fā)展方向。從資料來(lái)看，環(huán)氧防腐漆具有突出的附著力和耐蝕性能，而且通過(guò)改變顏填料和固化劑等手段，可以制成多種多樣、性能各異的涂料品種，世界上使用較廣泛、較為重要的防腐漆品種。

國(guó)涂料用樹脂的生產(chǎn)中，環(huán)氧防腐漆的品種較多、性能較穩(wěn)定，約40%環(huán)氧樹脂被用于制造涂料。環(huán)氧樹脂在紫外線作用下會(huì)發(fā)生粉化，所以環(huán)氧防腐漆一般不作為戶外面漆使用，但其粉化的速度很慢，如果不考慮外觀，單從保護(hù)基材的角度看，仍然可以使用，尤其是脂環(huán)族環(huán)氧樹脂具有較好的耐候性能。

此外，純環(huán)氧樹脂脆性較大，一般在環(huán)氧中添加增韌劑，約使用一年后，增韌劑揮發(fā)，涂膜脆性急劇增大，機(jī)械沖擊下會(huì)發(fā)生脫落等弊病，所以，目前一般用柔性樹脂對(duì)環(huán)氧進(jìn)行改性，稱為改性環(huán)氧樹脂和改性環(huán)氧防腐漆。
